Tosca, Puccini’s dramatic and beloved masterpiece will sweep the Opera Birmingham mainstage this spring in a tale of love, lust, deceit, and murder. A tragic and political love story, Tosca explores how love overcomes all. Treat yourself to magnificent melodies and nonstop action, featuring the Opera Birmingham Chorus and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. A trio of wonderful artists will make their Opera Birmingham debuts portraying the iconic characters of Tosca. Leading the cast, in the title role, will be soprano Karen Slack (sopranokarenslack.com). Ms. Slack is known for her lustrous voice and dramatic depth, and has performed the leading heroines of Puccini and Verdi across the country. Cavaradossi will be sung by tenor Noah Stewart (noahstewart.com), whose distinctive timber and magnetic stage presence have made him a leading interpreter of Romantic French and Italian repertoire. Baritone Hunter Enoch (hunterenoch.com) will round out the trio as the villainous Scarpia, with a ringing sound which will command the stage as he works to twist Tosca to betray her love. Director Andrew Nienaber (andrewnienaber.com) and conductor Craig Kier (craigkier.com) will lead the production, featuring the Opera Birmingham Chorus and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.
