An artist, teacher, and writer; Rene has used glass as a medium of artistic expression since her teens. After completing an MFA at Kent State University and acting as interim head of the glass department there, she built and operated a hot glass studio in Cleveland, OH where she focused on creating commissioned work for libraries, hospitals, and corporations along with continuing exploration of sculptural forms in glass which can be found in museums and collections internationally. In 2010 Rene moved to Mobile, AL to found and develop the new arts program in glass at the University of South Alabama. In 2017 she decided to open her own studio in Mobile where she can resume creation of commissioned art and follow her artistic muse. In addition to teaching art at university, Rene has taught workshops worldwide in glass blowing, casting and fusing techniques. She is a Fulbright Senior Scholar (2012) and has served on their selection committee in arts. She is author of “Art Glass from the Kiln,” Schiffer Publishing 2010 and her work has appeared in multiple art publications. THE MOBILE DELTA: Glass & Light, organized by the Mobile Museum of Art, is underwritten by Drs. Joseph and Martha LoCicero and Geri Moulton in honor of Gordon Moulton, with additional support from the City of Mobile, the Alabama State Bicentennial Committee, the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
