The Twisted Kilt Society is proud to be the host of the Southeast Alabama Highland Games. Many have asked the question “What is the Twisted Kilt Society?”. The story about the formation of the Twisted Kilts, is a funny one. For more on that tale, head on over to www.TwistedKiltSociety.org. You’ll be glad you did. The Southeast Alabama Highland Games, or as we're known to some, the Wiregrass Highland Games, began as an idea had during a sit-down around the TKS table. That Idea has grown into the Southeast Alabama Highland Games, the aim of which, is to enrich our community by providing an educational, yet family friendly event that seemed missing in the wiregrass. As a predominantly Scottish group, our first question was "How does the general public see Scotland"? Well, the first thing that comes to mind about Scotland are the kilts, and then discussion usually turns to a generic United Kingdom discussion, England, Ireland, and Scotland. And this lead us to our epiphany. Around Dothan, the only "UK" event that happens is on St Patrick's Day. Granted, it is Irish, but it is UK along with Scotland. We also realized the only way to celebrate St Patrick's Day in Dothan was if you were 21 and older at a bar drinking green beer. We wanted to expand the celebration to include families, this led to our choice of St. Patrick’s day as the day of our event. We want to make the event about more than green beer, green clothes and pinching pretty girls. We’d like to make it a celebration of UK food, music and culture, family and fun! So we at the SEAHG are proud to serve the Wiregrass area and help bring the United Kingdom's rich cultures and traditions to Dothan for one day every year and we hope you'll join us you celebrate St Patrick's Day the Scottish way! Failté!
