Pioneer Days at Rikard's Mill

Pioneer Days at Rikard's Mill

Nov 3rd 2022 - Nov 4th 20229:00 am - 12:00 noon

Monroe County Museum hosts two days of Pioneer Days for students each November as Rikard’s Mill Historical Park is transformed into a pioneer village bringing history to life with rural heritage demonstrators. Nestled in the piney woods along the banks of picturesque Flat Creek, Rikard's Mill has served residents of north Monroe County since it was built in 1845. Students can watch and listen as demonstrators illustrate how corn is ground into meal and grits, weave fabric, make quilts, perform blacksmithing, candlemaking, construct musical instruments and extract juice from sugar cane for syrup making in the mule-driven cane press. This is a great opportunity for students to step back in time and experience life in early Alabama. Food vendors will be on site.
