Joe Cain is one of the those individuals who not only brought Carnival back after the Civil War, but also reinterpreted it. Despite his importance in Carnival history Joe Cain, fell into relative obscurity after his death. It was Julian Lee Rayford, a Mobile sculptor, folklorist, and commentator, who "rediscovered" Cain. Flamboyance of both fact and fiction and fiction surround both men. This exhibits celebrates the lives and legends of Rayford and Cain.
