Indigenous Culture and River Cane Preservation Celebration

August 30th, 2025 - August 31st, 202510-6

The Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama would like to invite you and yours to our upcoming event we will be hosting in August.
Our Indigenous Culture and River Cane Preservation Celebration is August 30-31, 2025 (Labor Day Weekend) at 1001 Murphy Hill Rd., Langston, AL 35755 in Little Mountain Marina Campground, 10 am - 6 pm. This will be a free event and open to the public. We will have hands on demonstrators of river cane, showing artist work and how Indigenous peoples use this sacred plant, and hands on education of Indigenous culture.
There will be Conservationists attending to help promote the preservation of river cane and educate the public in the diminishing of canebreaks and how we need to preserve this plant,  river cane protection for Indigenous culture and lifeways, river cane's ecological impacts of our riverways, importance of our ecosystem for wildlife, and as a filter for toxic runoffs in our riverways.
We are excited for this upcoming event with all State Recognized Tribal citizens and Federal Tribal citizens in Alabama, and some out of state tribal citizens focusing on public education for all ages. There will be artists, food, dance, drum, singing, Children's dances, an Indigenous village,  language, and much more. We hope to see you all there and enjoy in these fun days with your favorite Indians.
