Cane thickets once covered hundreds of thousands of acres in Alabama, but this area, lying within the Black Belt, had the most extensive stands is known as “The Canebrake.” Centered on the junction of the Tombigbee and Black Warrior rivers, near Demopolis, and extending eastward to include large parts of Hale, Marengo, and Perry counties as well as portions of Greene and Sumter counties, The Canebrake is rich in history. Celebrate Alabama's Bicentennial and the Canebrake with tours of seldom-open historic sites, live music, arts & crafts, and more! Two weekends of fun, March 23-24, and March 30-31, 2019!
