    If you’re traveling on I‑65 and want to get to downtown Athens, Alabama, the easiest route is to take Exit 351 for U.S. Highway 72. From there, head west on Highway 72 if you’re coming from the south, or east if you’re coming from the north, and follow the signs toward Athens. Continue for about three miles, and you’ll arrive in the downtown area, which centers around the historic Courthouse Square. Another option is to take Exit 354 for U.S. Highway 31. From that exit, head south on Highway 31 for about a mile, then turn onto Clinton Street or Hobbs Street, both of which will take you directly into downtown. Either route will bring you to the heart of Athens, where you’ll find local shops, restaurants, and historic landmarks.
