31st Annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride®

31st Annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride®

September 21st, 2024Event has already occurred

The Indian Removal Act of 1830 called for the voluntary or forcible removal of all Indians from the eastern United States to the state of Oklahoma.  May of 1838 marked the deadline for voluntary native removal.  So began the Cherokee "Trail of Tears," one of the darkest episodes in relations between the United States and Native Americans.

As many as 4,000 deaths occurred because of this forced removal of civilized Native Americans from their rightful homes. In the end, members of the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole nations suffered the same fate as the Cherokees. Join us as we honor those from the past who traveled this Trail of Tears as we ride the Drane/Hood Overland Route.  Let us learn from this mistake, accept each other as we are, and ride together in peace.

Ride the official route that is recognized by the Alabama Indian Affairs Commission as “dedicated to following the historical route to Waterloo, AL.” This Motorcycle Ride was started to bring awareness to the Trail of Tears route brought on by the Indian Removal Act of 1830.  Always the 3rd Saturday of September. Ride at your own risk No registration & No fees to ride. Riders may join the ride at any of the stops. It’s more than just a ride, it’s an experience….. See Native Americans Dance and display arts and crafts passed down by their forefathers at all three stops!
