The Magnolia House

This historic home is an amazing place to host weddings, ceremonies, proms, receptions, anniversaries or parties. Corporate functions, family & class reunions, whatever you can think of. Built in 1870 by the Webb family, it was a plantation home originally located a few hundred feet down hill where the lake is now. In 1959, Alabama Power and The Army Corps of Engineers bought all of the land where the lake is. This family of means, decided to protect the heirloom homestead and they moved it up hill. Six of the seven fireplaces survived the move. The picture above is the original front of the house. As they moved the house uphill, they turned it since they now had lake front property. The side porches then faced the road for an amazing view of the lake and the base of the Appalachian mountains that we still enjoy today. The Poland family purchased the property (in disrepair by then) in the 1980’s and renovated and restored the home to its glamour and up to code. They also glassed in the porches. My wife Ann and I purchased it in January 2018 and transformed the place into what you see today. We mixed 19th century with 21st century and kept as much of the original materials as possible. There is original ship lap throughout and it is built so solidly. Personally I have never walked up or down on such a sturdy, robust stairway. They don’t build them like that anymore. We hope you fall in love withe The Magnolia House like we did. Come take a tour! Dave and Ann Kubat 770-778-1547
