The Fall Line Overlook

The Fall Line Overlook is one of Wetumpka’s newest scenic and educational spaces, designed to highlight the city’s remarkable geological heritage. Perched above the Coosa River near Coaches Corner and The Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts, the overlook provides breathtaking views of the river as it flows across Alabama’s Fall Line—a transition zone where the hard crystalline rocks of the Piedmont meet the softer sedimentary layers of the Coastal Plain. This natural divide creates dramatic river features that shaped the region’s history, industry, and settlement. Interpretive displays help visitors understand the geological story of Wetumpka, from the Fall Line itself to the nearby Wetumpka Impact Crater, one of the best-preserved asteroid impact sites in the United States. Whether you come to enjoy the view, learn about the land beneath your feet, or simply relax in a vibrant outdoor space, the Fall Line Overlook connects nature, history, and community.
