The Derailed Diner

From the outside, this eatery resembles a train yard. Inside, guests can eat in the “dining car” or have a drink at the bar designed around a school bus. Not to be outdone by the unique atmosphere, the menu has plenty of character too — from late-night fried green beans to the BBQ Meatloaf Po’Boy.

One of the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama

Chef Rick's Pecan Pie Cheesecake

Planes, trains and automobiles greet you as you walk through the door of the Derailed Diner. Truck tailgates have been turned into tables, motorcycle seats serve as chairs and a whole bus sits between the kitchen and the dining area. The fun and friendly atmosphere isn’t to be missed, and since the diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, you have no excuse not to stop by. While you’re there, make sure to order a slice of pecan pie cheesecake. A graham cracker crust is topped with pecan pie filling and a layer of creamy cheesecake for a rich treat that's the perfect way to end a meal.
