Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama is known for getting people on the road, but some might be surprised at how successful their tours are at doing this. Over 113,000 visitors have toured HMMA since the plant started offering tours in 2005, and many of those visitors traveled at least 100 miles to take them. HMMA offers free public tours Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30, 12:30 and 2:00, and on Thursday nights at 6:30. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Children must be age 6 and up (with a parent or guardian) and children in groups must be third grade and up. One adult for every 10 children must accompany the group and supervise children at all times. Visitors are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to their tour start time to enjoy the new car and wall displays. The Gift Shop is open after the tours. HMMA has four wall maps one of Alabama, one of North America, one of the world, and one of South Korea hanging in the lobby of its visitor center. Guests receive a pin to stick in the map to indicate their hometown. Most pins are clustered around Montgomery, but there are large groups of pins in other places. Atlanta is well represented, as are most towns of any size in Alabama. Detroit, home of the U.S. auto industry, has plenty of pins. Western Florida is another concentration. Most countries around the world are also represented. Groups, usually schools, churches, military, senior citizens and civic clubs, love to visit. People who are just passing through on their way to somewhere else often call to see if they can catch a tour. The tours fill up quickly, so advance reservations are suggested. Sometimes there are last minute openings so visitors can call to see if they can get on a tour. Each tour can hold up to 32 visitors. You can also have your name put on a waiting list to be called if seats become available.
