Denny Chimes
Denny Chimes is one of the most recognizable landmarks on The University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. The 115-foot campanile, or freestanding bell tower, was completed in 1929 in honor of former University President George H. Denny, who was highly respected by students and faculty. Funded through a student-led fundraising campaign, the tower quickly became a cherished symbol of campus tradition. Inside the tower is a carillon of 25 brass bells that mark the hours and perform music throughout the day. The bells are played during special occasions, concerts, and university events, often performing patriotic songs, memorial tributes, the school fight song, and the alma mater. Located on the Quad, Denny Chimes is a popular gathering place for students, visitors, and alumni. The tower also serves as a backdrop for campus tours and graduation photos, making it one of the most photographed and beloved landmarks at The University of Alabama.
