Coosa WMA Double Bridges Trail

The Coosa WMA (Wildlife Management Area) offers outstanding birding opportunities. The Double Bridges location is on Hatchet Creek at Lake Mitchell, and offers access to a trail that is currently approx. 11.0 miles long for a 22.0 mile hike in and out. There are two trailheads. Two primitive campsites are located along the trail. This is an especially rich area to see songbirds, raptors and game birds. One of the last remaining populatons of Red-cockaded woodpeckers exists here. It is also the last take out site on the Hatchet Creek Canoe Trail. From intersection of AL 22 and US 231, travel south 8.1 miles on AL 22 to CR 29/Kelly’s Crossroads. Turn right and drive 1.8 miles. Cross bridge and take immediate left for the Coosa WMA Double Bridges area.
