Claudia's Caboose

All aboard one of the most unique rentals in the Southeast! Mountainwood Cottages and Caboose in the Lookout Mountain area of NE Alabama, Dekalb county,  is proud to announce the opening of “Claudia’s Caboose” in Valley Head, Alabama. The story of this Southern, “Yellow Belly”, bay window caboose, built in 1971, began as it rolled the rails in the southeast on local routes. It was retired from service and saved from the scrappers torch in the mid 80's where it resided in a private RV park until it was to be sold or scrapped again in 2021. Robert and Claudia purchased the caboose and transported it to Valley Head in Sweet Home Alabama where it now sits in the center of town between the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and Hwy 117.

The renovation began in 2022 and is now ready for guests to enjoy the experience of staying in a real caboose. Claudia’s caboose offers many more amenities than the conductor had when this was a working caboose. With a 70's "vibe", you walk into the kitchen with a microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee pot and table for 4. The living room consists of a full pull out couch and a flat screen TV. The small, industrial,  but efficient bathroom consists of a  tiled shower, toilet and sink. There is a separate small bedroom with a queen size luxury mattress.

Outside enjoy a spacious deck, grill, firepit and plenty of room to roam.
