As a beloved Alabama arts institution, Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF) broadens the cultural identity of the South by producing classics, Shakespeare, contemporary plays, musicals, theatre for young audiences, and exciting new works. Theatre is inherently local. It builds community — the stories projected from our stages matter. In 2018, Artistic Director Rick Dildine launched ASF’s most significant commissioning venture to date with the New Southern Canon Project. We seek to redefine the identity of the South by telling stories that are important to (and inspired by) the people of this region. At its heart, ASF is committed to engaging, entertaining, and inspiring people with transformative theatrical performances and compelling educational and community programs.
