Where To Eat
Big Spring Café opened in a railroad boxcar in 1928 and is the oldest restaurant in Huntsville. It's changed locations and owners a handful of times, but customers can still get a cheeseburger and fries for less than $5. Also on the menu are hot dogs, chili and onion rings.

Big Spring Cafe may be the oldest restaurant in Huntsville – it opened in a railroad boxcar in 1928 – but this menu item never gets old: the chili burger. This popular dish is cooked on a flat grill to give a great sear to the meat, then topped with the cafe's special house chili (made fresh daily since the cafe opened). The burger comes on a square bun with mustard, onion and cheese, pressed just before serving. As one fan stated, these may not be the healthiest burgers around, but they sure are the tastiest!
Big Spring Cafe may be the oldest restaurant in Huntsville (it opened in a railroad boxcar in 1928), but this menu item never gets old: the Slaw Dog. This tasty dog is served with the cafe’s special house slaw, a cool ketchup-based fixing with a sweet crunch. When fans come back for 80-plus years, you know it must be good!
