Where To Eat
Serving Fort Payne for just shy of 30 years, Bar-B-Q Place is just as simple and casual as its name implies. The barbecue is Memphis-style, chopped with sweet, dark sauce, but the restaurant's Jo-Jo potatoes are what keep folks coming back for more. Sliced, fried and seasoned, the side item beats frozen fries any day.

Although the Bar-B-Q Place is obviously known for its smoked meat, it's the Jo-Jo potatoes that landed this Fort Payne institution on the famous dishes list. These round, thinly sliced potatoes are battered and then fried crispy. Once they have browned in the fryer, the potato crisps are topped with a creamy secret sauce reminiscent of a ranch dipping sauce.
