Bailey Tabernacle CME Church -Civil Rights Trail

Bailey Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church is a historic congregation located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Founded in 1870 by formerly enslaved African Americans who organized their own church community after the Civil War, the congregation has played an important role in the spiritual and cultural life of the city for more than a century. The church is part of the Christian Methodist Episcopal denomination, which was established to serve newly freed African Americans in the post-Civil War South. Over the years, Bailey Tabernacle has remained an active center for worship, fellowship, and community outreach, offering ministries and programs that support families, youth, and local residents. The current church building was rebuilt in 1998 and continues to serve as a gathering place for worship services, church ministries, and community engagement. Today, Bailey Tabernacle CME Church remains an important historic and spiritual landmark in Tuscaloosa.
