Athens-Limestone Visitors Center

Planning a vacation or weekend get away?

We invite you to visit Limestone County Alabama - located in the Tennessee Valley with the Tennessee River running along the southern end of the county and the Elk River defining the southwest boundary.

Limestone County is in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northern Alabama. Filled with friendly people and progressive communities, the county stretches from the northern bank of the mighty Tennessee River to the southern boundary of the State of Tennessee.

Whether you are interested in a quiet morning walk on any of our 17 trails, our beautiful antebellum homes, museums, bird watching, festivals, rodeos, sports events, hunting and fishing, horseback riding, picking cotton, shopping, or eating Southern style cooking, you will find it all in Limestone County.

When you travel in Athens Alabama, you’ll see we’ve been preparing for your visit! From deep cleaning and sanitizing, posting friendly reminders to wear masks, wash your hands and maintain safe social distance, to creating safe spaces both indoors and out.

We’re ready for you to enjoy our clean sweet home. And when you’re here, know that you will feel safe and be safe. Together, we will follow the CDC guidelines, the Alabama Department of Public Health orders.

We will do all that is necessary to ensure that you can take it all in, responsibly!
