Monroeville & Gee's Bend
You'll be hard-pressed to find communities as steeped in Southern culture as Monroeville and Gee's Bend. Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, modeled the fictional town of Maycomb after her hometown of Monroeville. Make the book come to life as you visit this area and take a step back in time. The quilters of Gee's Bend are world-renowned folk artists, and the Alabama River Museum provides interesting information and facts about the state's waterways.
