Mobile, Alabama, is known for its historic and coastal charm with French influences. The vibrant history of the city includes the first-ever Mardi Gras celebration and parade that dates back to 1711.  Like most Alabama cities, Mobile has come into its own with its focus on a thriving culinary scene filled with Southern and Creole flavors harmoniously blended with the freshest seafood that can be found along the Gulf.

Many of the city's top fine-dining restaurants take pride in sourcing local ingredients, allowing diners to savor the true flavors of the region. Here are some of our favorite fine dining experiences:

The Noble South

The Noble South is located in the heart of downtown and is a beacon of Southern sophistication. The menu offers items that are made with local produce and seafood. Chef Rainosek puts a modern twist on Southern dishes like his Gulf Shrimp and grits with a seared seasonal duck breast aimed at showcasing the region's heritage.

Noja

Noja is a favorite among locals and visitors and offers cuisine that is an unexpected combination of Mediterranean and Asian influences. Their signature dishes such as the panko-crusted rack of lamb and the miso-glazed grouper highlight Noja’s innovative menu.

Dauphin’s

This restaurant is perched atop the Trustmark Bank Building and offers diners a 360-degree panoramic view of Mobile Bay. The menu emphasizes coastal cuisine such as stuffed Gulf grouper and a duck duo demonstrating the masterful use of regional ingredients and Chef Steve Zucker’s sophisticated culinary techniques.

The Hummingbird Way

Headed up by Chef Jim Smith, former Executive Chef for the State of Alabama, The Hummingbird Way showcases a bounty of the Gulf that is refined. Diners will experience carefully crafted dishes such as crispy Gulf oysters and the heritage pork chop, each of which is a commitment to quality and local sourcing.

Wintzell’s Oyster House

This restaurant is an iconic institution in Mobile and has been serving delicious seafood since 1938. Wintzell’s is known for its oysters, but there also are Creole-inspired dishes such as gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish étouffée. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere steeped in historic charm.

Felix’s Fish Camp

Overlooking Mobile Bay, this restaurant combines the freshest ingredients with traditional recipes that ensure diners experience authentic Creole flavors. The menu is filled with Creole classics including shrimp and grits, crab bisque, as well as a variety of seafood platters. The views also are memorable and offer an experience all their own.

The Royal Scam

The Royal Scam offers a sophisticated dining experience with a menu that includes several Creole-inspired dishes. The shrimp and crab bisque, Creole-spiced seafood pasta and crawfish stuffed pork chops are just a few dishes that incorporate Creole elements.

While Mobile may be a city steeped in history, its fine dining scene has come into its own. From its dedication to sourcing local ingredients to its innovative culinary techniques to a deep respect for Southern traditions, Mobile offers an exquisite culinary journey filled with Spanish, Creole and French influences making it a hidden gem for food enthusiasts.
