It’s a “Wet Felted Rug Stomp” and you are invited to participate. During this traditional wet felting collective project, lead by fiber artist Kami Watson (Studio 256), you can join in and learn how to turn raw wool fiber into a finished felted rug/tapestry. This is a wet, soapy, and a little dirty, family fun event for all ages. The finished felted pieces will then be on display at the Flying Monkey Arts hall, located on 2nd Floor South building. June 10th is World Wide Knit in Public Day, and there will be a variety of fiber events taking place at the Flying Monkey Arts hall. But did you know wet felting pre-dates spinning, knitting, and weaving for fabric making? This traditional art is still used today in many parts of the world to make things like yurt walls, rugs, and more. And wet felting is having a resurgence of popularity in the fiber art world. So come and join in on the fun and experience this traditional art for yourself. (Bare feet are recommended for this activity, but some people do prefer to wear rain boots. You may wish to bring an old towel to dry off.)
