The ceramic works that make up Susie Bowman's exhibition, Connected, seek to foster that which draws people together through form and function. Her pieces are not merely for display but rather are meant to be used in everyday gatherings. Their design represents an imperfect, ever-changing world where catching up and staying connected with friends and loved ones can be a challenge. Of her work, Bowman said: "Sitting at a table and sharing food with family and/or friends has always been important to me. Having the body of a bowl separate from the foot forces people to interact at the table. You cannot put the bowl down until it has passed from hand to hand, making your table guests engage with one another, even in this small way. By function, my bowls are designed to bring intimacy to the table by connecting with each other in at the beginning of the meal and encourage warm conversation as a result."
