Lowe Mill A&E’s Artist Talk program provides an informal, intimate setting for artists, art lovers and patrons to spend time with Lowe Mill A&E exhibiting artists. These events consist of a gallery walk with the artist, during which visitors can ask questions and learn about process and ideas behind the work, as well as time for less-structured interaction with the artist. Refreshments will be served. This edition of Artist Talk features Tiffany Ownbey, the Rutherford, NC-based artist behind our Third Floor East Gallery exhibition “Paper Army.” She is an award-winning artist based in Rutherfordton, NC, where she lives in an 80-year-old log cabin hand-built by her grandfather. She has exhibited internationally. From the artist: Using traditional papier-mâché techniques I make figurative sculpture and collage out of antique sewing patterns, vintage books and re-purposed objects. My work is a study of human interactions, relationships and memories…sometimes humorous and sometimes tart. Scale and proportion are intentionally manipulated for emphasis.
