David Frings-Director, Oak Mountain Interpretive Ctr., Guest Speaker. Complimentary refreshments are offered at 1:30 pm at the OMIC (next door to AWC) followed by the program at 2:00 pm. Reptiles are among the most ancient animals on the planet, having existed for over 300 million years. Modern reptiles inhabit every continent except Antarctica. They number in excess of 10,000 species and of these 93 are indigenous to Alabama: 1 crocodile, 12 lizard, 49 snake & 31 turtle species; 4 lizard species have been introduced. This program will include a sampling of live native and non-native species, affording close-up views of their unique adaptations. Children will love this program. Be sure to bring your camera! Weather permitting, an informal nature walk follows the program so be sure to bring your binoculars & field guides in addition to your camera. (Free after paid admission to Oak Mountain State Park.)
