Old Cahawba Archaeological Park

Historic Site

Alabama's first permanent capital and most famous ghost town. The Archaeological Interpretive Park includes a welcome center, education room, picnic area, hiking trails, interpretive signs, historic ruins and a new, accessible nature trail.

This historic site is owned and operated by the Alabama Historical Commission.

  • Open daily 9-5 (grounds); noon-5 (welcome center); special group tours by appt, including wagon tours

  • Visitor Services Grounds Admission: • Adult, $2 • Child (6-18), $1 Guided Group Tours: • Visitor information and self-guided driving and walking trail brochures are available at the Welcome Center daily from 12pm-5pm. For morning visitors, a selection of brochures is available on the Welcome Center porch. • Walking, $8 • Basic Wagon Tours Adults, $10 Children, $8
